Eduard Cemeli-Carratala

Toxicologist

Ed made a start in toxicology in the year 2000. For the first 10 years of his career, Ed was an experimental toxicologist in academia who obtained a PhD in Genetic Toxicology at the University of Bradford followed by a 6 year postdoc in biomarkers of exposure to environmental/industrial carcinogens.

In 2010, Ed moved from academia to public health authority/industry/consultancy.  At the Food Standards Agency (London), Ed learned the principles of toxicological risk assessment which he would apply in following employments. In 2014, Ed started his professional career as a safety person/risk assessor in the consumer goods industry. Initially, Ed worked at Reckitt Benckiser (Hull) ensuring the safety of brands such as Air Wick. Years later, he worked at the global consultancy Intertek (Leicester), assisting global corporations such as Fater/Procter & Gamble, Unilever and VAX to deliver safe products to consumers.

Ed is well-experienced in the risk assessment of consumer goods and has knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as cosmetics, CLP, detergents, food supplements and to a more limited extent, biocides. Ed has had a professional interest in REACh for many years, which finally materialized when joining Penman Consulting in early 2024.

Ed is a sports enthusiast. He loves all sports but particularly, football and rugby. He is passionate about swimming and undertakes masters competitions / open water races when he finds time to prepare them. He also loves spending time with his daughters (including homework time) and taking his dogs for a walk.
