Our History

In April 2007 Sue and Mike Penman MBE established Penman Consulting.
In 2020 we have grown to 39 staff working across UK, Belgium, and remotely, for Clients around the world.

  • 2007
    • Penman Consulting bvba opens in Tervuren, Brussels
  • 2008
    • Penman Consulting Ltd incorporated
    • Successful tender to manage new Lower Olefins and Aromatics (LOA) REACH Consortium
    • First employees hired, Tom Penman and Helen Penman
  • 2009
    • Managing the Higher Olefins and Poly Alpha Olefins (HOPA) REACH Consortium
  • 2010
    • REACH Deadline ≥ 1000 tonnes per annum
    • Team grown to 8 staff and first non-Penmans hired
    • Successfully registered 400 substances for the first REACH deadline
  • 2011
  • 2012
    • Brussels office moves to Rue Royale
    • Development of testing strategies for HOPA and H4R
  • 2013
    • REACH Deadline ≥ 100 tonnes per annum
  • 2014
    • Stanford Mill, Oxfordshire, UK, office opens
    • Increasing Study Requests from ECHA – ongoing testing programes and updates
  • 2015
  • 2016
    • Increase in number of projects and diversification of Clients
    • Reporting HOPA testing to ECHA
    • New Grove Office for Active Steward™ Team
    • ISO 9001 certification, Penman Consulting Ltd
  • 2017
    • Introduction of section heads into business, more formal management and reporting lines
    • New office in Brussels - Avenue Des Arts
    • Reporting H4R testing to ECHA
  • 2018
    • REACH Deadline ≥ 1 tonne per annum
    • Team grown to 35
    • Successful ISO 9001 Audit, Brussels
    • UK office moves from Stanford Mill to Aspect House
    • 10th anniversary of Penman Consulting Ltd
  • 2019
    • ISO 9001 re-certification passed
    • Dossier updating program completed; 91 dossiers updated
  • 2020
    • Penman Consulting and Active Steward awarded ISO27001 for our ISMS (information security management system)
