Martin has over 25 years experience, many in senior executive roles within the industrial chemicals industry. He has worked at Borg Warner, Ferro, ARCO Chemical and LyondellBasell, in the UK, US and The Netherlands.
Following secondary and university education in Germany (Diplom Kaufmann, University of Aachen) he started his career as a Financial Analyst with Borg Warner (ABS polymers) in Amsterdam, before moving to Ferro in Rotterdam as a Divisional Controller (performance materials for industry). He then moved to Arco Chemical in Maidenhead (industrial chemicals) where he saw progression from Financial Planning roles to Marketing Manager and Planning Manager. When Arco was acquired by Lyondell he ran the Propylene Oxide and MTBE business as Business Manager. When Lyondell moved their EU headquarters to Rotterdam Martin ran the EMEA Supply Chain. Later he worked through the Chapter 11 process as Business Finance Director and finally, he designed plans to restructure the global Finance organisation. In this role Martin developed a shared service model, targeting savings of over $20m through headcount reductions and outsourcing.
Since his departure from the global corporate world, Martin has run his own consulting business where he worked on medium-term projects in windfarm consulting, antique auctions and social media start-ups.
In February 2019 Martin joined Penman Consulting in the role of Consortia Manager and as a member of the Management Team. In his new role, Martin is responsible for the effective operation of four chemical industry consortia focused on achieving and maintaining REACH compliance.
